The teaching of the saxophone
will be adapted for each student according to his/her level, age,
ambitions and the repertoire that he/she wishes to learn.
The lessons will take place mainly in Geneva
(Switzerland) and its surroundings. However, if needed they can also take place beyond these areas.
From what age?
Once the permanent central incisors (front middle teeth) are fully grown….
Who can learn the saxophone?
Children and young-at-heart adults of all ages…
Without distinction of gender.
How can one get a saxophone?
There are two options. One can either purchase or rent a saxophone.
Rental of a saxophone will allow you to be able to use the instrument
without any risks associated with a purchase and to return it
in case of any dissatisfaction. For rental of a saxophone, please
see the Servette-Music website for more details."Servette-music".
In any case, the saxophone teacher (Nadine) will be happy to advise
and test any instruments which you may have an interest in purchasing
or renting.
How long will it take for me to know how to play correctly
the saxophone?
It is always difficult to respond to this question since it depends
on the diligence that each student applies to the study of the
saxophone. Typically, a student discovers that he/she has made
good progress after six months of study. And after two years,
a student will start to deepen his/her mastering of the technique
of the instrument and for this reason the student will be able
to derive more pleasure from playing the saxophone. After five
years of continuous study, the student can expect to become an
amateur saxophonist!
Which study notebooks - which methods?
A proven technical method is used as a base for all styles that
will allow for mastering of the fingers and the reading of the
scores. However, it also depends on the progress of the student,
his style and his diligence….
How long is each lesson?
It depends and varies according to the age and level
of the student. In general, lessons take 30, 45 or 60 minutes.
Are the lessons private?
The lessons can be conducted in a school (with an annual
examination) or privately (which will be at a more personalized
level and appropriate place for the student). All saxo-fun
lessons are conducted on a one-to-one basis with the student.
Theory?… hmmm
"Can one play the saxo-fun without
learning theory?"
In general, the teaching of theory goes in parallel with
the teaching of the saxophone. These two go hand in hand during
the course.
It is also a fact that the study of theory
is essential if a student wants to learn to play a particular
repertoire that he/she has an interest in. Knowledge of theory
will help the student to develop his/her saxophone skills more quickly and to master better the style of music that he/she
enjoys.
Of course,
there is no obligation at all to know the theory, but to
do so, will be like learning a language by focusing on the vocabulary
only whilst forgoing the grammar!
And for those most motivated, it is also
possible to have classes that are more specific and in this case,
it will be necessary to refer to the theory
course specifically for composition.
